Bainbridge assessed the current lighting, designed a new energy-efficient lighting solution, and installed it with occupancy sensors to improve illumination and reduce energy consumption.
Anord Mardix needed better lighting in their Kendal facility; Bainbridge designed and installed an energy-efficient solution, greatly improving lighting and reducing costs.
Anord Mardix, a global leader in electrical engineering, needed to improve inadequate lighting in their Kendal facility, so Bainbridge assessed the current lighting, designed a new energy-efficient solution, and installed it, resulting in a significant improvement in lighting levels and greater than expected energy cost savings.
The Problem & Goal
Anord Mardix is a global leader in electrical engineering and manufacturing, specialising in critical power solutions. Their large manufacturing facility on Shap road in Kendal(K1) makes for one of the largest employers in the area and it is essential the lighting levels meet the necessary requirements for the specific tasks carried out by staff who work there.
We were asked by Anord Mardix to assess the lighting currently fitted in the K1 facility (98 lights). Bainbridge undertook a lighting survey by which the lighting hazards and risks within the building were highlighted through actual figures against the current light levels. It became apparent the facility was inadequately lit for the tasks being undertaken by their staff working within the building. As a result, we were asked to come up with a new lighting scheme to bring the light levels up to those recommended in CIBSI but that would also keep energy consumption to a minimum.
The Solution
Bainbridge designed a new lighting solution through a comprehensive lighting illustration, which included the recommended illumination levels to the client. It presented photometric data, energy consumption and cost savings. It was proposed that the lighting levels were going to improve by 561% and energy consumption was going to be reduced by 37.5%.
The Results & Benefits
The new lighting was installed following a strict set of RAMS which allowed manufacturing to continue with minimal disruption to the K1 shop floor. As the project got underway further decisions on cost savings were discussed and the decision was made to fit each light with an occupancy sensor, which would turn the lights off when nobody is working in that given area.
Once the installation of the lights was complete, a second lighting survey was carried out showing that the results supported the original design proposals set out. Energy consumption was reduced by more than the original 37.5% for the installation. Cost savings of the K1 facility exceeded expectations leaving the customer delighted.
" Bainbridge Electrical was contracted to bring the light levels of our K1 facility up to the CIBSE recommended levels for a manufacturing facility, whilst simultaneously aiming to reduce energy consumption. A design proposal was put forward and agreed, along with an installation program that allowed manufacturing to continue with minimal disruption. Risk and method statements were provided and checked by our health and safety team and the work carried out as originally discussed and to a high standard. "
