A bespoke control system to automate and improve an existing effluent plant at Bentham Auction Mart
Bentham Auction is one of the leading livestock markets in the North of England specialising in all classes of breeding and prime sheep, store cattle, stirks, dairy cattle and calves offering a competitive live sale ring as well as farm to farm and direct sale options.
The Problem & Goal
Bentham Auction Mart saw an opportunity to automate and improve one of their existing effluent plants and the goal was to find someone to design, install and commission a bespoke control system to achieve this. They required a solution that would deliver a fully automated process to provide better quality final effluent and that would ensure daily consented values of outlet flows were not exceeded.
The Solution
After an initial meeting to determine requirements, a control philosophy was developed in house and agreed with the client. A full electrical control system was then designed and manufactured in house including CAD electrical design, panel design, PLC programming with Siemens S7-1200 PLC and HMI programming with Red Lion CR1000 HMI.Design, supply and installation of all field items including level control, outlet control valve and associated pipework was carried out and full commission including training with plant operators followed.
The Results & Benefits
The system, once fully commissioned, provided a fully automatic effluent control system that delivered a better quality effluent and ensured that daily consented outlet flows were not exceeded. The system also delivers remote alarms to the client via SMS message when alarms on the system are present. The system, as installed, requires minimal client intervention and operation to operate the plant.
